Ty Law reveals Patriots stars drank alcohol at practice and points finger at Mike Vrabel

The New England Patriots have been rocked by a revelation from former star Ty Law that players used to drink alcohol during practice sessions.

Law spent 10 of his 15 seasons in the NFL with the Patriots and played under three coaches during that span: Bill Parcells, Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick.

Under Parcells, Law was drafted as a cornerback in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft, and he spent a few seasons playing under Carroll before the arrival of the Patriots’ legendary Super Bowl-winning coach Belichick.

However, it appears Law and some of his team-mates were caught up in some bad habits after confessing they used to swig whiskey on the way to practice, which is strictly banned by the NFL.

When asked if he ever drank alcoholic beverages before games or during practice, Law revealed that his team-mates would “hit the flask”, although he claimed he never partook and simply stuck to coffee.

“We did it in practice. Mike Vrabel used to have the flask, so we’d all go to Vrabel and hit the flask; he had some whiskey or something. I was a coffee guy,” Law said on The Dan Patrick Show.

“He had everybody else getting a flask. Back then, we used to have to drive to practice… before the beautiful Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. We were driving over there with helmets and shoulder pads on just being silly, and hell yeah we were taking drinks in the car.

“Coach Parcells, Pete, when we were over in the other practice facility, it was going down on that little five-minute drive – especially when it was cold outside.”

The roster and culture he inherited was far from ideal, but during his 23 years in charge, Belichick transformed the Patriots from a team of underachievers into champions.

His no-nonsense attitude and reputation as a disciplinarian saw him whip his team into shape, and it is fair to say such shenanigans would not have taken place on his watch.

The Patriots reached the Super Bowl eight times between 2002 and 2019 and won six times, making Belichick one of the most successful coaches in NFL history.

Meanwhile Law, now 49, was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2019 after winning the Super Bowl three times in his career.
