Former LSU Wide Receiver Bet on Himself Against FSU Football and Lost

Former LSU Football star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte is in hot water, after being charged with illegal online gambling, placing over 8,900 bets. Some of those bets were on LSU games while he was still on the team, including betting on himself against Florida State in their season opener in New Orleans in 2022.

Per Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, Boutte bet that he would score a touchdown and have more than 82.5 receiving yards against the ‘Noles as part of an 8-leg parlay.

Boutte would finish that game with just 2 catches for 20 yards and no touchdowns, having as many drops as he did catches, in what ended up being an instant classic as the ‘Noles blocked an extra point at the end of regulation to seal the win. Florida State had him covered up all game, with credit to Renardo Green and Akeem Dent.

After a strong freshman and sophomore campaign, where Boutte racked up 1,244 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns, many had him pegged as a potential top-5 pick if he could grow on those seasons with a strong 2022 season. The Florida State game was the start of a disappointing season, where he’d finish the year with just 538 receiving yards and two touchdowns, falling from a potential first-round pick to being selected in the 6th round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He had just two receptions in his rookie season for 19 yards on seven targets.

According to the arrest warrant (he has since turned himself in on these charges), Boutte placed a total amount of $132,147.53 into his online betting profile during the 2022 and 2023 seasons and withdrew $50,282,36. He had actually won a lot more than that, but a lot of his winnings went right back into the account to make more bets.
