Cleveland Browns: connections to NFC Championship

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Detroit Lions visit San Francisco Sunday in the NFC Championship and there are some Cleveland connections to the game.

He played 58 games in 3 1/2 seasons for Cleveland, catching 122 passes for 1,895 yards and 8 TD.

Peoples-Jones was traded on Halloween of 2023 to Detroit for a 6th-round pick in 2025.

Lions offenslve line coach Hank Fraley played center for the Browns from 2006-09.

He started 52 of 63 games for Cleveland, then finished his career with one year in St. Louis.

Tight ends coach Steve Heiden played tight end for Cleveland from 2002-09.

Heiden caught 187 passes for 1,602 yards and 12 TD.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan was the Browns offensive coordinator for one season in 2014, the same year Cleveland drafted QB Johnny Manziel.

Shanahan resigned after one season amid friction with the front office and head coach Mike Pettine.

Defensive coordinator Steve Wilks held the same job for a season in Cleveland (2019).

Wilks was let go in 2020 when Kevin Stefanski was hired as head coach.

Niners safety Tashaun Gipson began his NFL career in Cleveland and played 4 years for the Browns (2012-15).

He was undrafted out of Wyoming but picked off 14 passes in 50 games with the Browns, taking 2 back for touchdowns.

 

Gipson signed as a free agent with Jacksonville after the 2015 season.
