Trevor Noah Summons Taylor Swift at the 2024 Grammys, Swears ‘Revenge’ on NFL for Its Constant Taylor Cutaways

You could feel the tension rising slowly in Trevor Noah’s extended Grammys intro routine, as he went an impressive number of minutes without mentioning the name likely about to dominate both this weekend and next: Taylor Swift.

After reading off the names of six of the seven female artists nominated for album of the year at the 2024 Grammys, he paused, mock-forgetting the seventh name — which was of course Swift’s, as she’s up for the top prize (and potentially her fourth win in the category) for 2022’s Midnights. As Noah invoked her name for the first time, she came walking through the venue’s open floor to her table, along with a small entourage, including go-to producer Jack Antonoff.

“We should do this like this every year,” Noah quipped. “I’m gonna say the people[‘s names] and they appear.”

Noah then went on to mention the NFL’s overexposure of Swift during games this season, as she’s been a constant presence since going public with her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce in September. He also vowed “revenge” on Swift’s behalf that evening, based on the league’s much-criticized tendency to repeatedly cut away to her during games.

“I’m gonna give her a break,” he promised. “Every time someone says Taylor Swift, I’m gonna cut the cameras to someone who played football.” (He then went on to spotlight NFL veteran-turned-actor Terry Crews, jokingly demanding of him, “Do you work for the CIA, Terry?

Album of the year is one of six categories Swift is up for at this year’s Grammys, also including record and song of the year for “Anti-Hero.” If she wins the top prize for Midnights, her four career wins in the category would move her into sole possession of the most wins in the award’s history.
