Dallas Cowboys Fans Ranked NFL’s ‘Most Heartbroken’ in 2023 Season

Amidst nearly three decades of Super Bowl-free heartbreak, the 2023 season proved to be particularly painful for Dallas Cowboys fans on an emotional level.

Dallas Cowboys fans didn’t have to wait until Valentine’s Day to have their hearts broken.

According to a study from The Sports Geek, one shared with CowboysSI.com, Cowboys fans were named the most heartbroken among the NFL’s 32 fanbases, the declaration determined by social media posts rendered “sad” or “angry.”

Dallas’ long-suffering fanbase hit “send” on 389,150 posts critical of their team this season, their 28th straight bereft of a Super Bowl appearance.

Even the most casual football watcher would probably know the source for most of the consternation: The Sports Geek study said that over 34,000 posts alone came in response to the Cowboys’ postseason no-show against the Green Bay Packers, a 48-32 shellacking that saw second-ranked Dallas serve as the first team to ever lose to a seventh-seeded squad in the NFL playoffs.

The NFC East was understandably well-represented in the top 10 shared with CowboysSI, as fans of the Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles made no secret about their feelings. Posts from Pokes fans barely beat out “mean tweets” from supporters of the Birds (383,230) but each beat out their fellow complainers by over 50,000.

Already notoriously hard to please, Eagles fans endured an unceremonious end to their team’s NFC title defense: the final stages of the season saw them drop five of their final six regular season games, lose the division title to the Cowboys, and fall in the Wild Card round to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Buffalo Bills  (331,390) placed third while fans of the Detroit Lions (315,030) and Miami Dolphins (298,290) rounded out the top five.
