LIV Golf ace Carlos Ortiz has leapt more than 1,000 places in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) in just one weekend.

This came after his latest golf victory at the Asian Tour’s International Series event in Oman on Sunday. Ortiz, 32, triumphed in the Middle East after shooting a flawless seven-under-par 65 in the final round under challenging conditions.

He beat fellow LIV Golf defector Louis Oosthuizen, who came second, and his Torque GC captain Joaquin Niemann, who finished third. Ortiz was one of 21 LIV members participating in the International Series event.

With the breakaway league not resuming until LIV Jeddah later this week, Ortiz and his colleagues decided to head to Oman. They hoped to earn some much-needed world ranking points, as the breakaway league is yet to receive OWGR recognition.

The decision proved fruitful for Ortiz as he not only secured his first main Tour victory in four years but also made a gargantuan jump in the rankings. Before the event, the Mexican was ranked 1,286th in the OWGR list, far from his previous best inside the top 50.
