Talented Letterkenny teenager will follow in his father’s footsteps by representing Ireland in the European Youth Cup

Letterkenny teen Shane Porter, an exceptionally talented young dart player has recently secured a coveted spot on the Irish Youth Darts Team.

Yesterday’s announcement solidifies Porter’s (only 16 years old) selection, making him the sole representative from his county for the upcoming Europe Youth Cup in Latvia later this year.

Born to Gerald and Noreen Porter, Shane, a student at St Eunan’s College, took his first steps towards the dartboard at a tender age and has since forged an impressive path in the sport.

As the current captain of the Donegal Youth Team, Shane led his team to the semi-finals of the All-Ireland held in Ballinasloe this past weekend. Additionally, he showcases his skills for Browne’s Bar in the Twin Towns League and contributes to Glencar Inn, champions of the recent Letterkenny League.

Undoubtedly, Porter’s journey has been shaped significantly by his father’s influence, who himself has represented Ireland at the senior international level.

Gerald, brimming with pride, shared the exhilarating news, emphasising the dedication, perseverance, and unwavering spirit that have propelled Shane to this remarkable achievement.

Reflecting on his own experiences competing with Ireland’s senior teams, Gerald expressed profound gratitude for the announcement, recognising it as a cherished moment.

“Today’s news is something I will cherish for a long, long time. So as very proud parents, we would like to wish Shane all the very best on his achievement and thank everyone who has helped in any way to make his dream come true,” Gerald said on Facebook.
