Decision to Keep Jake DeBrusk Paying Off

Leading up to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, Jake DeBrusk was the subject of trade chatter. It is understandable, as he has an expiring contract and could have helped the Bruins improve their roster elsewhere. However, the B’s elected not to move him, and it is turning out to be the right move.

DeBrusk, 27, has been on fire lately and is not showing any signs of slowing down. The 2015 first-round pick has three goals and seven points over his last six games. Along with that, he scored the overtime winner in the Bruins’ latest matchup against the Montreal Canadiens with an absolute beauty.

There’s no question that DeBrusk has struggled with consistency this season. He has had long cold streaks, but it appears that he is starting to turn the corner. When playing at his best, he is a legitimate top-six winger, and the Bruins are starting to get that from him again. With the playoffs being right around the corner, this is undoubtedly fantastic news.

While adding DeBrusk to a trade to bring in a high-impact player could have been beneficial, it is apparent that keeping the Edmonton native in Boston has been nothing but good for the Bruins thus far. Now, his goal will be to keep this play up during the final stretch of the season and postseason from here.
