Raymond van Barneveld told Luke Littler to ‘f*** off’ after the teenage sensation failed to reply to his texts.

Littler has quickly risen to superstardom following his run to the final of the World Darts Championship in January in what was his debut tournament.

The 17-year-old followed up his Alexandra Palace heroics by beating Michael van Gerwen in the Bahrain Masters.

His next big win came at the Belgian Darts Open in Wieze earlier this month, edging past Rob Cross in the final.

And it was his victory in Belgium that prompted Van Barneveld to send Littler a congratulatory text message.

The five-time world champion is one of Littler’s biggest inspirations and the pair met for the first time at the World Championships.

Van Barneveld was perhaps surprised when Littler offered a cold greeting to him at the oche at Ally Pally but admits he can understand that the 17-year-old was in complete focus for their clash.

“So that’s the weird thing about it,” Van Barneveld told Sportnieuws.

“I understood then that I am his example. That at the World Championship you don’t chat I can understand, but other tournaments… The other day I walked up to him to shake his hand. Then he took out his earplug for a moment and only said the most necessary thing.”
