Luke littler names his role model dart stars saying humpheries is definitely not one of them

Luke Littler has taken the world of darts by storm since bursting onto the scene at the PDC World Darts Championship and the 17-year-old has hailed former world champion Michael Smith

Luke Littler believes former world champion Michael Smith is the most “must-watch” darts player on the PDC Tour.

The teenage sensation, who rose to fame at the PDC World Darts Championship earlier this year, has taken the sport by storm and generated huge levels of interest. However, Littler has hailed Smith, stating that he has the “smoothest throw” of any player on the circuit.

In an appearance on JaackMaate’s Happy Hour, Littler was asked who the biggest “must-watch” player is and replied: “Erm… probably Michael Smith. He’s just, me and Luke [Humphries] have said he’s got the smoothest throw, as soon as he lets it go they’re just boom, boom. They’re in.”

Littler and Smith have faced each other four times in the Premier League Darts this year and it is Smith who has the edge, having won three of their meetings. Their first match took place last month in Cardiff, with Smith beating Littler 6-5.

And speaking after the win, Smith was full of praise for the 17-year-old. “I actually thought in the semi-final Luke Littler was Welsh,” he joked. “It’s going to be every week, it doesn’t matter where it is.

“Everyone’s fallen in love with him. He’s even bigger than Phil Taylor, who won 16 world titles. Luke is the most popular thing in darts. I’m going to ride the wave. People keep following, sponsors keep coming in, and the prize money is going up for us lads.

“When I walked in this afternoon there were no interviews. Luke Littler walked in and it was ‘can you do this one, can you do that one?’. That was me last year. This time I got to sit and chill, break up my time on the board and it worked.”

However, Littler finally won his first Premier League title in Belfast earlier this week after beating Nathan Aspinall 6-4 in the final. “I’m happy to win my first one – I’ve changed my throw, put in more practice tonight and it’s paid off,”Littler said after his victory.
