Once upon a time, Florida Football coach Billy Napier was on the hottest of hot seats while FSU coach Mike Norvell was being treated like royalty. That narrative has completely switched as Napier is in a position of strength heading into this Saturday’s matchup, while Norvell looks like a guy who went way down yonder on the Chattahoochee in the offseason and barely returned in time for the games to be played.
After going 13-0 last year only to still be left out of the playoffs because they spent half the year bumbling and stumbling even with Jordan Travis, FSU has gone 2-10 since winning the ACC championship, kickstarted by their 63-3 drubbing at the hands of Georgia.
Once it was clear this squad wasn’t going to accomplish anything, FSU looked like a team that quit on the season and just wants Saturday to come and go as quickly as possible.
Napier was asked about the struggles FSU has been having, but it doesn’t sound like he is going to be sending a get-well-soon card to Tallahassee anytime soon.
Yes. I’ve got a plan in place for what — you don’t make decisions like this, to this scope, without having an idea of what it is that you are looking for, what are the areas where I think we can continue to improve and support our players and highlighting the guys that we have and also highlighting the guys that we’re going to go get. I do have a plan in that. Don’t want to get into too many specifics at this time. But yes, I’ve got a picture of what that’s going to be.
FSU should focus its resources on high-school recruiting going forward but if you have to overspend to get a quality player out of the portal; then FSU should be overspending on the wide receivers that will become available.
