Jordan Poyer Says Bills’ Josh Allen – Not Tua Tagovailoa – is NFL’s ‘Best Quarterback’

Jordan Poyer Says Bills’ Josh Allen – Not Tua Tagovailoa – is NFL’s ‘Best Quarterback’

Longtime Buffalo Bills teammates Josh Allen and Jordan Poyer made quite the viral hit during Micah Hyde’s annual charity softball game in downtown Buffalo.

While veteran safety Jordan Poyer may have left western New York, there is still a great deal of Orchard Park left in his heart.

In fact, he still harbors plenty of affection for his former teammates, including fellow defensive back Micah Hyde and quarterback Josh Allen.

Hyde, on Sunday, presented his fourth-annual softball game, which took place at Sahlen Field in downtown Buffalo. Several Bills players took part in the event, including Allen, and Poyer who signed with Buffalo’s AFC East rival Miami Dolphins in the offseason.

Though Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is now his teammate, Poyer still believes the NFL’s best wears No. 17 for the Bills.

“For seven years, I played here. And I loved every minute of it,” Poyer said. “I’m sorry we couldn’t get it done [remaining in Buffalo] … but, y’all got the best quarterback in the league (he said while pointing his bat toward Allen) … I know that might go viral, but that’s ok.”

After spending the first five years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns, Poyer signed with the Bills in 2017. During his seven years in Buffalo, Poyer compiled 682 tackles (35, for loss), 48 passes-defensed, 22 interceptions and 11 sacks. For his efforts, Poyer earned first-team All Pro honors in 2021.

Despite throwing for less than 30 touchdowns for the first time since 2019, and a career-high 18 interceptions, few will argue that Allen is still among the “best of the best” when it comes to NFL quarterbacks. The 27-year-old completed 66.5 percent of his passes last season, for 4,306 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also set an NFL record for quarterbacks by rushing for 15 scores. Accordingly, Allen makes a strong case to validate Poyer’s claim.

Apparently, the Bills 27-year-old star quarterback is an also a multi-dimensional athlete, having won the afternoon’s home run derby, beating out defensive end A.J. Epenesa by a final score of 11-9.
