Stefon Diggs jabs Vikings’ front office over ‘intent’ of Bills trade

Stefon Diggs didn’t offer the “kindest” words to the Vikings front office when reflecting on his widely publicized trade from the team in 2020.

When speaking to reporters earlier this month in preparation for his first season with the Texans, the former Bills receiver — who was traded to Houston in April — discussed his time in Minnesota, where he began his career in 2015, and took a dig at team brass.

“Because at that point when I left Minnesota, I was a good player, but I [wanted] more for myself, I felt like I was better than that, that I could be better than that,” Diggs said, according to KHOU 11.

“And up to a point I was like, s–t, I’m gonna roll the dice and bet on myself. And they sent me to Buffalo. I don’t know if they sent me to Buffalo with the most kindest, with the most great intent, but all’s well that ends well.”

Diggs’ breakup with the Vikings was highly publicized at the time, with the wideout cryptically tweeting in March 2020, “It’s time for a new beginning,” before being dealt to Buffalo a short time later.

The 31-year-old has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in six straight seasons, including the past four with the Bills.

He led the NFL in receptions in 2020 (127) and receiving yards (1,535).

Although the Bills reached the postseason in all four years of Diggs’ stay in Buffalo, rumors of discord swirled.

He had an animated exchange with quarterback Josh Allen on the sidelines during a playoff game in 2023 and missed the first day of the team’s mandatory minicamp later that year.

“When I got to Buffalo, Josh was and still is my guy. People don’t really understand what it’s like to be out there. He really embraced me. We spent a lot of time together and I probably wouldn’t be right here if it wasn’t for him,” Diggs said, per ESPN.

In the wake of April’s bombshell trade, Diggs’ contract was adjusted, meaning he’ll be guaranteed $22.52 million this year and will become a free agent for 2025.

The Texans, coming off a Divisional Round playoff appearance with rookie quarterback CJ Stroud, open the 2024 season against the Colts in Indianapolis on Sept. 8.
