The Buffalo Bills and wide receiver Khalil Shakir recently agreed to a four-year contract extensionworth up to $60.2 million.
That number may seem high for a fifth rounder out of Boise State, especially considering that heβs now the 23rd-highest-paid WR based on average annual value. But, Shakir fits exactly what the Bills offense needs, and they retained him for a more-than-fair price.
Spotrac had his AAV projected to be more than $19M per season, so the Bills get a hometown discount for one of its more important pieces.
Shakir led the team in most receiving categories this year. He finished first on the team in targets (100), catches (76), and receiving yards (821), while ranking third in the entire NFL with 618 yards after the catch.
Shakir is now under contract in Buffalo through the 2029 year. Heβs done everything right thus far and earned every penny of the extension, $32 million of which is guaranteed.
The deal is well worth it for the Bills. Not only do they lock up one of their most reliable young leaders in their locker room, but they lock up one of the most efficient receivers in the NFL. Among qualified receivers, Shakir ranked 20th in the NFL in receiving EPA (+40.2), which ranked higher than stars like Nico Collins, Mike Evans, and Drake London.
