DRA(Darts Regulation Authority) finalizes 3 year Ban on Nathan Aspinall for X-rated outburst during World Grand Prix of Darts

The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) has confirmed a three-year suspension for professional darts player Nathan Aspinall following an investigation into an X-rated outburst during the World Grand Prix of Darts. The ruling, announced Friday, brings an end to a disciplinary process that has dominated conversation in the sport since the incident occurred.

The DRA said its disciplinary panel found Aspinall guilty of bringing the game into disrepute after he directed a profanity-laden tirade at a television camera and the crowd during his second-round match at the World Grand Prix. The outburst, which was broadcast live, drew immediate criticism from tournament officials and prompted a formal complaint from the event’s broadcast partner.

In a statement, the DRA said the sanction reflects “the seriousness of the conduct and its visibility to a family audience.” The authority noted that Aspinall had previously received a warning for a similar incident and that the panel considered his disciplinary record before finalizing the three-year ban.

“The DRA expects all players to adhere to the highest standards of conduct, particularly during televised events,” the statement read. “The language and gestures displayed were unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.”

The ban, effective immediately, prevents Aspinall from participating in any DRA-sanctioned events, including PDC tour cards, televised majors, and qualifying competitions. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement after two years, with the third year suspended provided he completes a conduct and media-training program.

Aspinall, a former major champion and fan favorite, has not publicly commented on the ruling. His management team said in a brief statement that they are “reviewing the decision and considering all options,” including a potential appeal.

The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) said it would respect the DRA’s decision but declined to comment further. Tournament organizers for the World Grand Prix said they were “disappointed by the incident” but praised the DRA for handling the matter “promptly and thoroughly.”

The ban is one of the longest handed down by the DRA in recent years and is expected to have significant financial and competitive implications for Aspinall, who will miss a series of high-profile events and ranking opportunities. Fellow players have largely refrained from public comment, though one senior professional, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the punishment “sends a clear message” about conduct standards.

The DRA said it would release the full written decision in the coming days. Aspinall has 14 days to lodge a formal appeal.
