The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade defensive end Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a mid-round draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The deal is pending a physical and is expected to be finalized in early June.
Huff, 27, joined the Eagles in 2024 on a three-year, $51.1 million contract after a breakout 10-sack season with the New York Jets. However, his performance in Philadelphia fell short of expectations. He recorded only 2.5 sacks in 12 games and was a healthy scratch during the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs .
Financially, the Eagles will absorb $9.05 million of Huff’s 2025 salary, while the 49ers will take on the remaining $7.95 million. This move allows Philadelphia to alleviate some salary cap pressure and provides San Francisco with a seasoned pass-rushing specialist to bolster their defensive line .
The trade reunites Huff with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, under whom he previously played during his tenure with the Jets. San Francisco plans to utilize Huff primarily in passing situations, complementing star pass rusher Nick Bosa and newly drafted Mykel Williams .
For the Eagles, this trade signals a shift towards younger talent on their defensive front, with players like Nolan Smith and Azeez Ojulari expected to take on more prominent roles. The move also reflects the team’s strategy to manage their roster and salary cap effectively as they prepare for the upcoming season .
Pending the completion of Huff’s physical, the trade will be finalized, marking a new chapter for both the player and the teams involved.
