Veteran darts star James Wade has launched a blistering attack on the PDC, expressing his “total shock” at a loophole he claims has allowed teenage sensation Luke Littler to exploit the system on his way to winning multiple titles.
Speaking after Littler’s recent dominance, which included a stunning victory over Wade himself, the Machine voiced his frustration over the regulations. He questioned the integrity of certain PDC events that allowed the young star to gain an early competitive advantage at the start of the year, particularly referencing the World Series events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia .
“I know I’m already at a disadvantage compared to players who competed at the World Series,” Wade wrote, pointing out the structural issue in the calendar. He argued that early invitation events provide “valuable experience under pressure” and sharpen players like Littler for the season ahead, giving them an unfair head start over those who do not compete .
The criticism follows Littler’s meteoric rise, where he has bypassed standard entry restrictions on multiple occasions. The 19-year-old famously forced the MODUS Super Series to lower its age limit from 18 to 16 just to accommodate him . More recently, Littler’s success—which saw him rise to World No. 2—actually disqualified him from defending his four PDC Development Tour titles due to a rule barring top-32 players from that circuit .
However, Wade’s “loophole” claims seem to target the sport’s scheduling rather than the youth eligibility rules. He expressed disbelief that the PDC calendar allows certain players to “skip” the usual reset period after the World Championship, giving them match practice on live TV while others rest .
Despite the frustration, Wade has conceded that Littler possesses generational talent. He admitted that if Littler maintains his motivation, he is likely to become the “best player of all time” . However, he warned that the relentless schedule and media circus risk burning the teenager out . “I don’t know how much desire he still has,” Wade said, questioning whether the star has lost his appetite for the game .
The PDC has previously been accused of bending rules for the prodigy. Wade previously dismissed calls to change the World Cup of Darts selection rules to include Littler—who was left out of the 2024 England squad due to rankings—calling such talk “nonsense” .
With Littler continuing to shatter records and Wade pointing out the structural advantages the calendar provides, the debate over whether the PDC is enabling a new era of dominance—or simply allowing a genius to thrive—shows no sign of cooling down.
