SAD NEWS: Buffalo Bills Release RB James Cook And Withdraws Previous Contract For 2025 Season

In a shocking turn of events, the Buffalo Bills have released Pro Bowl running back James Cook following unsuccessful contract negotiations. Cook, who was entering the final year of his rookie contract, had been seeking a lucrative extension worth $15 million annually, aiming to position himself among the league’s highest-paid running backs.

Despite back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons and leading the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024, the Bills were hesitant to meet Cook’s financial demands.  General Manager Brandon Beane had previously expressed optimism about retaining Cook, stating, “He will be here this year and hopefully beyond.”  However, negotiations stalled, and Cook’s absence from the team’s offseason program further strained relations.

The decision to release Cook leaves a significant void in the Bills’ backfield. While the team did not select a running back in the 2025 NFL Draft, reports suggest they are eyeing Penn State’s Nicholas Singleton as a potential replacement in 2026.

Cook’s departure marks a significant shift for the Bills’ offense, and fans will be watching closely to see how the team addresses this unexpected change.
